Mt. St. Helens is located in the state of Washington, and is just a few miles from Portland Oregon. The Volcano is the only volcano active in the lower USA.

On May 18, 1980, Mt. St. Helens awoke with a bang, a 5.1 on the Richter Scale, 50 megaton blast knocked down 240 square miles of old growth forest. Today Mt. St. Helens is in recovery. We will be able to go within just a few miles of the Mt. St. Helens crater and it's ever growing and steaming lava dome. Bring the camera, there are lots of photo stops. The Mt. St. Helens tour is year round and takes all day and depends on the weather and road conditions. Tour stats about 9:00 AM and takes most of the day. Park fee's $8.00 Johnston Ridge and $5.00 Mt St Helens Visitor Center in 2008.

Visitor Center Information:
  • Mt. St. Helens Visitor Center: Open 9 AM to 6 PM from June 15th through September 1st, and 9 AM to 4 PM in the winter.
  • Johnston Ridge Observatory: Elevation 4,255 Feet. The visitor center is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM May through October. Closed in winter.
  • Johnston Ridge Observatory will close Oct 28th 07 for the season. Opening again in May of 2008.
  • Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center: Elevation 3,091 Feet. Coldwater Ridge Visitor Center will close as of Oct 28th 07  and will be closing for good.
  • Other attractions are closed in the winter, October through April.
